Niel is a globally recognized leader specializing in corporate governance, enterprise risk management, cybersecurity, privacy & data protection, digital transformation, and Internet governance & policy. He has served in the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) position at Bemol, Doodle, Gibraltar International Bank, INTERPOL, JetBrains, and the United Nations Officer for Project Services (UNOPS). Niel has also held Chief Information Officer (CIO) or Chief Digital Officer (CDO) roles at Hugo, CARICOM Secretariat, and Bermuda Commercial Bank. Other organizations he’s worked with include Aspen Institute, AT&T Wireless, Canonical, Deloitte, European Commission, and the Internet Society, among others.

He’s been recognized with the Security Magazine Top Cybersecurity Leaders Award (2025), (ISC)2 Global Achievement Award (2024), International Security Journal (ISJ) Security & Resilience Award (2021), and the ISACA Technology for Humanity Award (2021). He previously served on the UK Cybersecurity Council’s Professional Standards Working Group, United Nations Information Security Special Interest Group (UNISSIG), ISACA Foundation Board of Directors, and the World Economic Forum’s Cyber Risk & Corporate Governance Working Group and Digital Trust Initiative. Niel current serves on the Independent Management Advisory Committee (IMAC) and the ISACA Board of Directors.

Niel holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Internet Law & Policy from University of Strathclyde; MBA from University of Leicester; CERT Certificate in Cyber-Risk Oversight from Carnegie Mellon University; Executive Certificate in Cybersecurity Strategy & Leadership from Florida International University; and has completed executive programs at University of Oxford, Stanford University, Nanyang Technological University, and Boston University. Niel has obtained key industry certifications such as CISA, CRISC, CDPSE, and CISSP.
