Leadership Bio
Dion Butler
Dion Butler is a senior network engineering and architect leader with decades of experience designing, securing, and operating global network infrastructures across enterprise, government, aerospace, and advanced research environments. Recognized for developing world-class engineering teams through rigor, mentorship, and real-world pragmatism, Dion bridges network engineering and business strategy effortlessly. He has a proven track record of leading organizations to achieve clarity, stability, and long-term resilience in their technical foundations.

Dion’s career includes more than ten years as a principal engineering leader supporting Paul Allen’s (founder of Microsoft) global portfolio. He led network design, operations, and security for Paul’s worldwide technical footprint, including research facilities, corporate operations, advanced AI/ML teams, and a complex global estate spanning multiple residences, three super-yachts, a submarine, aircraft, and a globally distributed data infrastructure. He was responsible for safeguarding and maintaining over 12 petabytes of mission-critical data while directing the engineering teams who supported these advanced global systems.
At Microsoft, Dion served as a Principal Service Engineer Manager, responsible for establishing hardware and performance standards for more than 220,000 employees worldwide. He oversaw internal Windows and Office deployments, reducing error rates to below one percent, and led security profile testing and software deployment strategies that improved reliability and cross platform compliance across the enterprise.
Early in his career, Dion spent eight and a half years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, supporting secure and classified networks for advanced operational units, maintaining large-scale databases for space-debris tracking, and working on defense planning systems for operations on the Korean peninsula. This was followed by a period where he helped build two startup organizations, including designing and operating an early-stage Network Operations Center (NOC). His experience spans global MPLS systems, SDWAN, satellite communications, classified network architecture, cellular telephony, and multilingual collaboration including operational Korean language capability.
Today, as Founder & Principal Network Architect Leader at Alphazeta LLC, Dion focuses on helping organizations modernize networks, strengthen security posture, and build enduring internal engineering capability. Alphazeta is currently engaged in strategic collaboration with enterprise organizations on AI adoption and modernization, with Dion shaping secure, scalable technical architectures for next-generation operations.
